Every year, Groundwater Week attendees and exhibitors report receiving emails or phone calls from companies claiming to represent NGWA or Groundwater Week regarding hotel reservations, attendee lists, or other travel services.
These companies are not affiliated with NGWA or Groundwater Week.
Hotel Reservations
NGWA will never call, email, or text you to book hotel accommodations for Groundwater Week.
The only official information regarding Groundwater Week hotels and room blocks is available on our Venue & Accommodations page at https://groundwaterweek.com/venue-hotels/
If someone contacts you claiming to be working on behalf of NGWA, Groundwater Week, or one of our hotels to book your room, please use caution before providing any personal or payment information.
Common Warning Signs of a Scam
Be suspicious if a company:
- Claims to be the “official” housing provider for Groundwater Week.
- Pressures you to book immediately to avoid losing your room.
- Requests payment by wire transfer, gift card, or other unusual methods.
- Offers rates that seem too good to be true.
- Asks for your credit card information over an unsolicited phone call or email.
- Claims to have obtained your information directly from NGWA.
How to Protect Yourself
Before responding to any unsolicited email or phone call:
- Verify the company’s website and contact information.
- Search the company online and look for reviews or complaints.
- Check the domain name of the email sender carefully.
- Be cautious if the message contains spelling errors, generic greetings, or urgent language.
- When in doubt, contact NGWA directly before making a reservation or providing payment information.
Attendee List and Data Scams
You may also receive emails offering to sell Groundwater Week attendee or exhibitor lists.
These offers are fraudulent.
NGWA does not sell attendee lists to third parties, and any company claiming to have an official Groundwater Week attendee list is misrepresenting itself.
