Take in the Sounds of New Orleans at Groundwater Week 2025

The first thing that comes to mind when you hear the words “New Orleans” is the sounds that fill the city– the amazing music. The jazz, the horns, the tubas, the drums.

The sounds are everywhere. Taking them in should be a part of any visit to New Orleans. Plan to do so when you attend Groundwater Week 2025 this December.

There are countless spots to do so. The most noted may be Preservation Hall situated in the heart of the French Quarter. The venue is no frills, but the shows are incredible. Preservation Hall’s musicians have a reputation for providing some of the best sounds in traditional jazz.

Walk along Frenchman Street in the evening and you’ll hear great sounds pouring out of the venues that dot the area. Among the most popular are Snug Harbor, the Spotted Cat Music Club, d.b.a., and the Maison. Some of the city’s most popular musicians have regular gigs with the clubs and play on Frenchman Street every week. Many spots serve dinner making them a great way to spend an evening.

Similar to European open-air markets, the French Market is five blocks of local produce, art, crafts, dining, and of course, music. Two restaurants feature music daily, making them ideal stops to take in tunes while you refuel with lunch, dinner or just a few cold drinks.

Some of the city’s finest restaurants also have music daily in their bars during happy hours and offer a jazz brunch. An excellent jazz brunch can be found daily at The Court of Two Sisters.

Groundwater Week 2025 takes place in New Orleans December 9-11 and is co-locating with the Irrigation Association. Register today at GroundwaterWeek.com, and when you’re there, make sure to leave plenty of time to take in the sounds of the city.
